However, vets insist that they definitely should. Jessi Dietrich posted a line about it and quickly became famous.

Veterinarians advise pet owners to take care of their animals to the end, even if it can be difficult. A “tired vet with a broken heart” at the clinic begged those who brought their animals in for a kind, painless ending not to abandon them amid certain emotions of their chaos.
Never force them to go from one world to the next in an unfamiliar room in a place they dread. The newspaper from the clinic says that when you leave them behind, they will look for you, which is something most of you don’t understand. Simply put, they are looking for their loved one in every aspect of space. Pets don’t understand why you would abandon them when they’re sick, scared, or old and need your comfort. Resist the urge to give up because you think it will be too difficult for you.
Dr Lauren Bugeja, a veterinarian in Melbourne, says it can be quite challenging to let aging pets sleep in their homes. According to her, animals often feel comfortable and at peace during this period, while humans can sometimes be too nervous to be in a room, take the time to talk and comfort the animals with their nurses to help them not feel fear or distress in their final moments.
Pets left alone in an undesirable environment, such as a veterinary clinic or consultation room, are more likely to panic because their location is unknown. So if you want to do it at the clinic, I recommend staying in the room with your pet.
