Rescuers recently rescued a sleeping dog on an active construction site, and the way they found him was heartbreaking as well as adorable.
It is not uncommon for people to go to the hospital when they need help. Suzette Hall, a dog rescuer and founder of Logan’s Legacy, thinks that somehow the little dog knows it and that’s why he ended up at the hospital alone one night.
One night, the little dog wandered into a closed area of the hospital, which was being renovated. The construction workers who found him the next day had no idea where he came from, but they were determined to help him. At first, the workers tried to capture the dog, later named Elliot, but they had no such luck. The little dog was very scared, every time someone approached, he immediately ran away.
After several failed attempts, the workers decided to look for an experienced rescuer to help them save Elliot. In the meantime, they did what they could to make the dog as comfortable as possible. “They left him a blanket, and he went to lie on it,” Hall said. After that, he would just lie on his little blanket every day. The workers prepared food and water for the puppy, and eventually they found Hall’s contact information. They contacted her, and she immediately dropped everything to help.
“When I walked in, he was already there, lying on the blanket,” Hall said. Hall could tell that the dog was shy, which meant she had to approach it carefully, but it didn’t even give her a chance to get close.
“As soon as he saw me, he ran away,” Hall said. It hides everywhere. We couldn’t find him for a while, but I knew he couldn’t get out. After searching the site for several hours, Hall decided to set up a humane trap with a food that always attracts hungry baby mice: sausages, which after two hours he was in.
Hall took Elliot straight to the vet, where they ran tests to get a better look at his health. The puppy had a number of infections that doctors could easily treat with antibiotics, but a test result shocked them.
“They took an X-ray and found a small spring,” Hall said. “That’s how he got hungry. He will eat anything.” Fortunately, Elliot was able to get through the spring on his own and without further intervention. Soon he was ready to go to a foster family.
Elliot is loving life in his new foster home. The once shy dog has completely come out of his shell since meeting his adoptive mother.
At first, he was scared, but now he is so sweet and perfect. Elliot is still hunting for the perfect family forever, but Hall knows he will soon find them. “He was bubbly, cute and cuddly,” says Hall. “He really is the sweetest dog.”
