Meet Kaya, an adorable kitten with a face that could melt even the coldest heart. It was born with a birth defect on her face that caused her to have a grumpy, grumpy expression. And once Odelkis Barrera, founder of TO Rescue (The Ontario Rescue), saw a photo of Kaya’s unique face, she knew she had to help the kitten.
In July, a kind Samaritan found adorable kitten Kaya outside and called TO Rescue for assistance. 4 week old Kaya is dehydrated, malnourished and covered with fleas and ticks. Under the care of Barrera and Kaya’s adoptive parents, the skinny kitten quickly gained weight and her adorable personality began to shine.
Even though the one-of-a-kind kitty has had to go through a lot in her short life, it never stopped her from being extremely affectionate and playful. Not only is she the cutest cat, but she’s also incredibly sweet. Everyone who met her fell in love with her. She gets along very well with her foster family, other dogs and cats.
“Her personality is amazing,” Barrera said. “All she wants to do is be caressed, loved. She can’t have enough if you don’t pet her then she will pet herself.” When she is not cuddling with her adoptive parents, Kaya can be seen playing with her favorite toy in her world – a cardboard box.
Now, at 5 and a half months, the only thing Kaya wants is to find a forever loving home. But since last week, she hasn’t received a single adoption application. Kaya recently had surgery to help her see better and relieve some eye discomfort. Although her eyesight is not the best, she has learned to move easily and is always able to spot when a dog, cat or other person is nearby, ready to be her playmate.
The rescue doesn’t understand why anyone would pass up the opportunity to add this special, sweet loofah to their family. She will do well with other animals and she is comfortable finding other dogs and cats around and enjoys playing with them. And she needs someone in it for the long term.
While Kaya is anxious to find a loving forever home, she knows that she is a great cat even if it takes the rest of the world a little while to realize.
