Alyssa DeLuca and Zachary Chin woke up one morning like a normal, peaceful day. Then DeLuca stumbled across a Facebook post from Trenton Animals Rock and everything changed.
DeLuca shared: “The post describes a chow chow/Shar-Pei mix that is scared to be in their shelter and will shiver in the corner of his kennel all day. “I immediately noticed the dog’s bright smile in the photo they provided and how much he looked like my boyfriend, Zack, Arthur. I gave the post to Zack and he couldn’t believe the similarities either. After reading the description, Zack looked at me and said something like, ‘Well, you know what we have to do now – we have to save him.’”
Initially, the couple had no plans to get a second dog, but as soon as they read about Wes and saw how much he resembled Arthur, they knew that was the intention.
“Within an hour, we reached out to Trenton Animal Rocks and submitted a form to foster and eventually adopt Wes, and they were quick to respond, asking us how long it would be before we could go to the shelter to see him,” DeLuca said. “They described him as a super sweet dog, but scared to stay in the shelter and needed to get out of there ASAP. Three hours later, we met Wes. Our hearts ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ when we met him.”
We waited for him in the outdoor ‘meeting’ area and heard the shelter team trying to calm him down as he was still shaking in his cot… We knew Wes couldn’t stay in the shelter and was scared much longer, so we brought him home with us after the meeting.
When Wes first arrived in his new home, he was certainly nervous, but when he realized he could count on his new family, his bubbly personality exploded. . He and Arthur quickly became close friends, and it seemed like the pair were really meant to be together. Their personalities are definitely different, but they complement each other very well.
“We always say they’re ‘same dog but different font’ because of how similar they look and although they have many differences, their behavior is very similar,” DeLuca says.
Since Wes is believed to be a chow chow/Shar-Pei cross, his parents decided to buy a DNA test kit from Embark to find out what kind of dog he really is. In the end, they also bought one for Arthur for health-related reasons. They didn’t expect to learn anything shocking – and were absolutely excited when they received the results.
Wes and Arthur look and act alike for a reason. They are brothers.
DeLuca and Chin are unbelievable, and it’s definitely the cherry on top of Wes’ happy ending.
