Kitten with 3 Paws Perseveres and Lives Everyday to Fullest After Being Found Near Dumpster

A few weeks ago, a good Samaritan from Southern California found a litter of three kittens left beside a trash can, in dire need of help.

The kittens are about a week old and one of them is missing a paw. The finder immediately took them to an emergency clinic for medical attention.

The trio are very young and will need round-the-clock care. Veterinarians began contacting the local rescue force for assistance. “That’s how we heard about their request for help,” says Amanda Hodder, founder of Kitten Rescue Life.

Petal and her siblings are found by a kind Samaritan near a trash can, rescuing kittens. Petal the calico has lost half of her leg. She developed a serious wound infection that could be life-threatening if left untreated. Her brother also had an infection in his navel.

“We immediately took them to our feline vet, who made the decision to have sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ on Petal’s leg right then and there,” Amanda said.

She was found to be missing a foot and needed urgent sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ Kitten Rescue Life

“Petal is just a week old and weighs only 5 ounces. The recommended age and weight for sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ and anesthesia is 2 pounds 2 months. Our vet did not take this decision lightly. gently she knew it was a life-and-death situation for her case.”

Amanda anxiously awaited the news outside the car as the sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ progressed. Then she got a call from the vet, telling her that Petal had passed and was conscious.

The calico displayed amazing resilience as it bounced back on three legs and began to attract attention. In just a few days, her wound miraculously healed and she was ready to venture out of her nest and play.

Petal staggers a bit more than her siblings, but she doesn’t let that stop her. She insists on doing everything the same as her peers and continues to build muscle and balance.

Petal is strong both mentally and physically. From the second we received her, we knew she was special. She never behaves differently from other kittens. Even the day she went home from surgery, she fiddled with her siblings like nothing happened.

When the flower is large enough, she will receive a second leg sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏ to ensure her quality of life. She has a very nimble nature. She’s goofy and naughty with her siblings, but she’ll also curl up on your chest or shoulder and enjoy cuddling time. She just found her tail and loves to chase it!

Petal is so brave and adventurous that the sky’s the limit for her. “She jumps and runs around like there’s no tomorrow.”
